Downtown Family Photography Spring Session

A little downtown Spring family session!

I should just say Summer because lord knows that Spring in Louisiana very, very short lived! We got about two weeks between what some people call winter and what Louisiana calls Summer. We work with what we get around here though!

This darling couple- Mollie and Andy and their precious little, Skylar made a dreamy little family photography session. I felt like they walked off the pages of a JCREW magazine and right in front of downtown Baton Rouge.

Mollie had the most darling bonnets for Skylar. Again, note JCREW magazine. We of course had a couple bloopers thanks to children under 5 doing what they do best!! Gotta love a spontaneous kiddo.

When it comes to my sessions whether it be a engagement session, family or newborn photography there is always, always the question of "what do I wear??" It seems that making these sorts of decisions for couples and families is labor some.

I always always tell my clients to think "blending"  not "matching". Matching takes away from the couple or family looking like their unique self!! This is a huge loss to me as a crafter of beautiful photography. Just think of a color scheme and then let everyone be themselves and choose what they are most comfortable in! This seems to be what works best for client sessions in my eye.

Back to the Merritt's! Like I said, JCREW models making family life look lovely and easy breezy!

We found a little nook by the Capital with some darling flowers in bloom. Skylar was perfect in front of them and starting exploring for four leaf clovers!! Well, that's what I like to think although I am sure she was just terribly fascinated with the itchy grass :)

She made for a darling little baby photography model though, don't you think?!

It was a perfect little family session and we got to talk babies towards the end! I got all sorts of new baby tips which was so helpful!! It's nice to get the down low from new mamas!!

So a BIG thank you for choosing me and for sharing all your parent wisdom :)

Y'all's little Skylar was just a doll!!

Baton Rouge Family Photograhy Sesion

Family Photography Session for the win!

The weather was perfect, the evening was clear... the skies were like Simpson's Skies and the family was just darling. The Rabalais.

We chose downtown Baton Rouge for our venue because, duh! it's the best. We started by the State Capital and just sort of found all the in's and outs over there we could possibly use.

I feel like the family were straight out of a JCREW magazine or something fancy like that. They had this sweet, Southern hospitality about them and their outfits blended instead of matchy-matchy which is a huge fashion win for this photographer!!

Little Liam was full of life and had no problem warming up to me! What a C-U-T-I-E! Seriously, wanted to show Mrs. Natty his silly faces and had all sorts of random questions for me. He actually asked where my child was and then we realized that he thought I was one of their parents friends because Natty didn't know who "insert child's name" was.

We walked over to the grassy area by the State Capital and proceeded to get a ton of amazing shots. Number one, this family was super easy to work with. Number two, the light was golden hour and perfectly setting behind them. Number three, I don't know why I number everything :)

You could tell Little Liam loved his Little Brother so much... They will be super adorable together through the years I am certain.

Baton Rouge Family Photography Session

It's been a looooong winter down in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana and we have all been itching at the bit for the grey skies and the downpours to finally stop. So that means it's time to get back to family sessions, outside in the afternoons and azaleas strewn about the neighborhoods!

Thank you Jesus for SPRING! Although its almost over and we are heading into the 6 months of sweltering summer that we get down in this Southern town. But we make the most of our 3 weeks of Spring around here and I was lucky enough to get to schedule a shoot with some favorite friends of mine....

the Vicknairs...

This darling trio can not be summed up with mere words. Daniel, a tad over a year old, is sheer joy in toddler form. He would have been a younger brother but his precious parents lost their firstborn a couple years back- darling, little David. He was seriously a one-of-a-kind boy and made Mrs. Natty a very happy aunt.... He walked his precious self down the aisle of my wedding with a sign in his hands saying, "here comes the bride". Pictured below.... This post could not be complete without David mentioned...

As you can see he was perfect and he looked very similar to their precious Daniel.

I had such a grand time shooting with this family though... They love to just let me create for them and so they leave lots of the ideas for the shoot to my creativity. I asked for favorite books, blocks, toys and if they favored really colorful quilts... we made quite the springtime shoot!

We even had an extra- Gramdma Pippy!

We ended the afternoon at our house with tea and cookies. It was a great St Patricks Day indeed!

Little Daniel made himself at home :) Sometimes you just gotta get it yourself!

Well, that's how we do down South!

Baton Rouge Family Photography Session

Bre emailed me around June to talk about Baby Meila coming in August. I was absolutely thrilled to take her family on as a client because she wanted the full package- the Bundle- with a Hospital Session, my absolute favorite and Newborn sessions and a Fresh 48.

That was the summer. Meila decided to come the day before me and my Hubs headed across the ocean to Africa to visit friends. I hated to miss her birthday but I knew I was coming back to plenty of Newborn love upon returning.

Upon coming home I found out that sweet Meila was not responding to her parents like normal and sleeping an awful lot. Breanne and Terry went back to the hospital with their little newborn just days of being sent home. And so their journey began.

Sweet Melia was in the hospital for days being tested and treated to try and figure out what exactly was going on inside of her little body.

I couldn't imagine the strain on one's heart to watch their sweet, new baby undergo all that Melia did. After relentless testing and poking and prodding they decided the best case scenario was to head to New Orleans where she could be seen by the best of the best- a geneticist.

Probably the best decision they made. Within a short amount of time they were being given information about Meila's condition that was all new. The doctors explain she could possibly have the MMA disease in which your body can not breakdown proteins. This was causing her to have different reactions in her little, newborn body that were causing the out-of-touch sense and sleepiness.

Having an ANSWER is all those two parents were asking for!!! And they are still believing God to move in Sweet Melia's life for the very best outcome!!! Their faith never wavered. Their hearts, though weary, were not moved. They plowed on. They moved forward and they hoped for the very, very best.

So Meila got to finally, officially come home and live with her big brother, Eli and get loved on by mommy and daddy.

Well, maybe a little playing by big brother Eli ^^^^^^

And I finally came over and did those pictures we emailed about all those weeks ago :))

And they are living happily ever after...

The end.

The infamous Dinkel boys. Are there any kids cuter? Probably not. But I am super partial.

Children's Photography

Abram- almost 3 yrs old- to the left and big brother Brody- just made 5- to the right.... they could be in a magazine with that sort of cuteness.

Silly faces pics was of course their favorite and I am pretty sure we lost all of them after this part.

John Robert met Chad many a years ago... I think they were 14. Yeah. So they have been the best of friends all these years since... that's at least double not to get into their ages and all. So I feel super blessed to have these people as family and mostly to have those two, sweet boys as my nephews. Double, triple win.

Children's Photography

Brody was apparently very tickled during this particular one and Abe was completely distracted

I pray this brotherly love stays forever.

And that they always play with each other, too. Which means throwing punches in boy world.

Such a good-looking bunch. Abe obviously takes much pride in his hair. Like his daddy.
